Penang, both the island and the mainland, is a beautiful state, a crowning jewel of the nation. A potpurri of the quaint and the modern, the old and the young, Penang is both pensive and exciting. I hope the photos here capture a fraction of that magic. They are not a pro's work; just a novice's view of the Pearl of the Orient. I hope you will enjoy them. Your blog is great but a few identifying comments would be a great help, particularly for those of us who can't read the language on the signs. About 5 years ago I saw an internet photo of a hotel in Butterworth which had a lobby straight out of a 1920's Somerset Vaughan novel. Could you locate it and photograph it? I woould love to visit it if I could find it.
